As a MARSOC team leader, Daniel Isaacs had no equal. But even his skill could not prevent a mission from going wrong and his team being captured. Daniel is sentenced to ten years, but soon after being incarcerated, he is visited by a CIA section leader, offering Daniel a way out whilst still being effective. He finds a new purpose as a firefighter, all whilst enduring the vilification of his team and civilians. In the background, a massive manhunt for Nathan Black eventually brings him back into Daniel's orbit, with the roles reversed. Daniel, with his NSA partner prevail.
Daniel finds himself accepted and then appreciated by those who vilified him as details of his hellish past trickle in. With his partner, they war against overwhelming odds to find peace. They also war against themselves, as the past keeps coming back in various disguises. The fight for their freedom from a past forged in hell is never over, but they face the storm together. Together, they navigate the treacherous terrain of their broken souls to find love and their kind of normality again.
