But that was soon to change.........dramatically!!
As Broadbill reached 25 miles due north of Robben Island, the eight charter guests crowded into the wheelhouse, each brandishing a firearm and pointing them at Kinnon and Nazeem.
"Okay, my friend. This is where we take over," Tall One said, covering Kinnon with his Glock. "Turn around the boat and steer 180 degrees and no funny business," he instructed.
"What the hell is going on?" Kinnon demanded, only to be rewarded with a flat hand across the back of his head.
"Shut up. Do what we say and you won't get hurt," was Tall One's reply.
With Tall One's gun pointed at him, he called the Cape Town Port Control to advise he had engine problems and needed lie off in the lee of Robben Island to effect repairs.
"That's fine," Port Control responded, "but stay outside the one-mile exclusion zone."
Kinnon agreed. He was aware an exclusion zone existed around Robben Island as it was a high security area. The island housed the prison where the apartheid government incarcerated African National Congress (ANC) members for terrorist activities.
Then it hit him like a bolt of lightning! They were going to spring the high-profile ANC leader Nelson Mandela from Robben Island!
