For his entire life, Nana Bediako, the king of Nsuota, who is already 90 years of age has yearned for a successor to carry on his legacy. His five previous wives had failed to bear him children – not even a female child. And with the passage of time, the weight of his unmet desire had grown heavier.
After decades of grappling with his quest for an heir, his sixth wife, an 18-year-old maiden, was blessed with the ability to conceive. But now, against all odds, his youngest wife was delivered of twins on the dawn of labor. What?? After all the pleas and sacrifices to the gods?
The birth of twins at this critical juncture was a cruel twist of fate. It posed an ominous dilemma that had the potential to shatter the fragile stability of Nsuota. Looking at the king's failing health, it might not be long when the king would breathe his last, but dying without a legitimate heir would make Nsuota vulnerable to external threats. Rival kingdoms would seize the opportunity to invade and plunder. And the kingdom itself could descend into chaos as internal power struggles is inevitable to erupt over the coveted throne.
