Amy Firestone has a pretty sad life, with a mother named Karren, who is a trashy, neglectful magazine owner, and having to deal with monsters from the age of 6. She has watched her mother corrupt her sister, with money, shoes and presents, and her little brother doesn't yet realize what the situation is.
Amy is attending the famous Tri-Spear academy, a school that is primarily a government building. With a 118 year long child hood ahead of her, she is still in Waratah daycare.
She meets a young half elf, who is the daughter of Simon Lockblood, a powerful politician, and military veteran, and her Sandman body guard, who has two arm ballistas, a scar over his eye, and is actually pretty chill. They uncover a mystery, about a race called the Nightlights, powerful beings, even stronger than Waratahs.
Amy, Tri and Gwen investigate, at great personal risk to themselves, realizing the terror that these creatures could create. Meanwhile Waratah Hunters are in North Bank, murdering Waratahs left and right. Waratah purists are attacking the Museum, trying to reclaim their Axe of Cleaning, a powerful weapon that cleanses half breeds like Amy and Gwen.
