A veteran of the war in Angola takes a job training game scouts in the huge Kafue National Park in central Africa. Here his job is thwarted by traditional beliefs. To solve these riddles he seeks the help of his old platoon sergeant. They are confronted with the old, the new and the hybrid Africa represented in beliefs and relationships.
Woven into the hunt for a solution is a search to find a place in the Africa which has tainted him and his old sergeant with their being on the losing side of the continent's independence struggles. Both men, due to race, have been affected in different ways, and consequently find themselves on disparate paths of reconciliation.
Further complicating matters is a thread of love tainted by taboos.
The story is set on the stage of an African Eden, even as outsiders seek to upset its cadence, with crime, kidnapping and lawlessness
