When I was growing up I wanted to be an actress. I then decided I wanted to be a playwright during my Theatre Studies A'level course. I found that I couldn't abandon the theatre - these things are in the blood. I like the idea of conveying powerful ideas through my work. I've always thought that it's good to see theatre that entertains but Theatre that has the most impact communicates something important.
I seek to write plays that people will enjoy but I also seek to engage people intellectually. I hope my work does both.
The play is a modernization of an event that took place in the 1970s involving an heiress called Patti Hearst. Hearst Communications is a well known media company that has been at the forefront of publishing in the US from its foundation. The abduction of Patti Hearst received international attention when it took place and still resonates now.
An actress is kidnapped and forced to join a militant communist group under threat of violence. The play discusses the psychological response of Stockholm syndrome and also explores themes including fame, poverty and race.
