Hayley Louise Macfarlane hails from the very tiny hamlet of Balmaha on the shores of Loch Lomond in Scotland. Having spent eight years studying at the University of Glasgow and graduating with a BSc (hons) in Genetics and then a PhD in Synthetic Biology, Hayley quickly realised that her long-term passion for writing trumped her desire to work in a laboratory.
Now Hayley spends her time writing across a whole host of genres, particularly fairy tales and psychological horror. During 2019, Hayley set herself the ambitious goal of publishing one thing every month. Seven books, two novellas, two short stories and one box set later, she made it. She recommends that anyone who values their sanity and a sensible sleep cycle does not try this.
I have always written stories, but it wasn't until I started the first book in the Solis Invicti series in 2014 that I really became obsessed with writing. I love to read, particularly where the escapism of the story is enhanced with an element of fantasy or science fiction. For me, writing is simply an extension of that journey, but I get to decide what happens next (though it's amazing how often the characters seem to decide for themselves what I'm going to write!).
As a new author, I love to hear from readers with their comments and feedback on the books, so please do get in touch through the website or via Twitter.
Thank you for reading!
Laila Amado is a writer of fantasy and science fiction (with occasional forays
into horror). Her short stories have appeared in several magazines and
anthologies. Tales of dark forests, secret libraries, forbidden romance, and
dangerous adventures interest her more than anything else in the world.
Some of these tales will soon become books.

Once Upon a Season
|
A hunter invades a blossoming grove and becomes obsessed with its beautiful spirit.
In a world forever waiting for spring, two women with no pasts or memories find each other.
A shapeshifting hare seeks her missing brother among the bluebells.
The god of the underworld mourns the loss of his beloved wife, the goddess of spring.
Once upon a time stories travelled from place to place on the tongues of merchants and thieves and kings alike. Winter would thaw, and down rivers of melt water and roads cleared of snow a new round of stories would pop up like flowers in every village or town or city.
In the spirit of these age-old stories comes Once Upon a Spring, a seasonal anthology of folk and fairy tales from 16 authors across the globe. It covers everything from spring curses to fledgling romances to daring adventures, and features both intriguing twists on classic tales and exciting original stories.
The third of four planned seasonal anthologies from Macfarlane Lantern Publishing, Once Upon a Spring is sure to have a story for just about everyone. Grab your copy in time for April showers today!
