Rob Ward read English at Leeds University and was briefly an English teacher, before landing a job as a studio manager at the BBC. He has played in several bands, one of which made a single that got into the charts, though never made it to the top twenty. Later, he took up computer programming and wrote several adventure games, the best of which is Hildebrand's Dungeons. He is now a full time writer and writes in a range of genres under different pen names.
Jim is a wannabe pop star working as a techie in a London recording studio, but when guitar god, Steve Starr, turns up stoned out of his mind, he get's his chance. He offers to play Steve's lead guitar part, and the recording is broadcast on TV (with Steve Starr miming to it). Steve is taken into rehab soon after and his manager remembers Jim - and puts a very unusual proposition to him, a proposition that will propel him to instant fame - but will he end up in the same sorry state as Steve? This novella is based on the authors experience of working in sound recording and playing in a band in the London of the mid 1970's.
