As the celebrated author of the novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit?, Gary K. Wolf gained fame when his literary vision of humans cohabitating with animated characters became a reality in the $750 million blockbuster Disney/Spielberg film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The film won four Academy Awards and launched a multiple-picture screen writing deal for Wolf with Walt Disney Pictures. In addition, his ideas inspired Toontown, the newest themed land at Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland.
He is now a full time science fiction novelist and screenwriter.
The woman the whole world knows as Jessica Rabbit started as Jessica Krupnick, an ordinary young woman living in an all-too-human world. (Toons don't exist in this world. At least not yet!)
Jessica is plain-featured, skinny, wears thick glasses, and has mousy brown hair. Nothing the least bit va-va-voomy about her. She works for minimum wage in a boring, dead end job. She's dated a long string of boyfriends, caddish and callow guys who invariably love her and leave her, often for one of her so-called best friends.
She lives with her dysfunctional family in a shabby trailer park. Her step mother harangues her. Her two step sisters treat her as the family servant. Her three lunk-head step brothers constantly annoy and harass her. Hardly the fairy tale world of a young girl's dreams.
Jessica trudges listlessly through day after day of drudgery, boredom, and disappointment. She knows in her heart that she's better than this. She's capable of doing so much more. She fantasizes being like one of the secret agents in the books she reads every night to take her mind off her miseries. Living a life of excitement, danger and action.
Then she spots a mysterious want ad looking for "a woman seeking adventure." She answers the ad along with several hundred other adventuress wannabes.
Of them all, only Jessica has the grit and determination to ace the complicated, dangerous, and extremely physical interview. Through a combination of skill, cunning, and crafty derring-do, Jessica beats out all the others and wins her dream job.
Jessica becomes an agent of XERIOUS, a super-secret organization dedicated to pursuing and apprehending criminal masterminds.
She gets a complete makeover. She learns how to dress. How to speak. How to present herself to best advantage. How to fight. How to shoot. She gets trained in languages, social skills, and everything else that a secret agent needs to know.
She emerges from her training a glamourous young woman who would be equally at home appearing on the cover of Vogue magazine or on the poster for a James Bond movie. Not as a Bond girl. As a female James Bond!
This book portrays Jessica Rabbit as much more than a sultry seductress songbird. The story fleshes out her character and depicts her as a true-life, multi-dimensional, intelligent, capable, sensitive woman who can easily hold her own in a world dominated by men.
Jessica Rabbit - a modern role model for women everywhere.
