J.R. Goodrich is a man with a passion for two things: writing, and the great outdoors. When not busily tapping away on his keyboard, he can be found skiing and hiking in the wilds of his home state, Alaska. He takes inspiration from the striking balance of beauty and danger which can be found while exploring that great landscape. He lives in Homer with an overfed Corgi named Sitka. The Jungle Never Sleeps is his first novel.
Jack has witnessed many things in his life: the death of civilization, the death of his brother, the death of a man by his own hands. . . But nothing can prepare him for the hell about to be unleashed.
The year is 1965, and the ravages of nuclear war have plunged earth into a state of tribal chaos. There is no government. No countries. No borders. After being shipwrecked on a remote Island in the Pacific, Jack finds himself in the ranks of the Guardsmen, elite warriors tasked to protect a group of refugees that share their Island sanctuary. This sanctuary is by no means safe, though. Danger seems to lurk behind every fern. And when a boat carrying asylum seekers lands on the Island's shore, Jack's already tumultuous world is turned upside-down. Because the seemingly-innocent refugees are not what they appear to be. Things begin happening that shouldn't. The natural becomes the unnatural. It soon grows clear that something has infected the Island. Something evil. If Jack and his fellow Guardsmen ever hope to make it out alive, there's one thing they've got to remember:
