Resting in the north of the magical country of Nealore, Foxhall is a quiet town flourishing in the wake of long-awaited peace. With the influx of societal change, new inventions and even new animals are integrating into the daily lives of its denizens, for both those who can wield magic and those who can't.
For kindhearted teenager Danika, the best of these can be seen in Pertsen's Pet Shop, where she works part-time amongst creatures strange, wonderful, and of course, adorable. Sweeping the floors may not be thrilling work, but it's not so bad when there's a bunch of puppies with knitted caps to pet as she goes by. She's never seen the horns that the caps protect, though she has seen light peeking through them.
On possibly her last day at the cozy shop, the quiet order of things is thrown into disarray. A mysterious package left on the doorstep causes an unexpected run-in with an exotic pet, sparking an adventure through town when it runs off. Teaming up with the owner's son, an unskilled magic wielder named Theo, and one of the trained puppies with unique, yet limited, tracking abilities, Danika must summon all of her courage to find the lost animal.
Will they be able to find the runaway critter in time? And will the absent owner even come back for it?
