I left for work, hoping to be back early. The day dragged on with the usual monotony — meetings, reports, and the never-ending pile of paperwork. My mind kept drifting back to Emily. I wanted to call her, just to hear her voice, but I didn't. I told myself I'd talk to her when I got home.
When I finally left the office, it was already dark. The city was alive with the sounds of nightlife — people laughing, music blaring from bars, and the distant sirens of emergency vehicles. I felt a strange sense of unease as I drove home. Something was off, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
I arrived home to an eerie silence. The lights were off, and there was no sign of Emily. I called out her name, but there was no answer. Panic started to set in as I searched the house. I found her in her room, lying on the floor, her skin pale and cold.
