"Avery's Virtue" is a coming-of-age story about a young lady in a very small Northwestern Town. She has spent her life as an outcast. She is considered the town floozy and must make some hard decisions on what direction her life will head. It's a typical small American town tail with the type-cast, after-high school characters that never grew up or understood their privilege. The theme of the story is about making that one big decision that changes your life.
"Time Froze the Day I Left," is a scene from a future war in America to combat a regime of fascist ideologies attempting to restructure the United States in favor of White Christian Nationalism. A snapshot of the soldier returning home for a short stay after the loss of a child to the horrors of war. The themes are rooted in the ideas of decency and body autonomy. The importance of knowing when it's time to fight for personal freedom.
"The Stingy Landlord" A 40,000-word novella is a modern retelling of the classic Irish wives' tale, Stingy Jack. This is the story of a man who receives a large inheritance from a great uncle, a venture capitalist who turns out to be the devil. Instead of helping people he spends the money on real estate investments and begins a widespread gentrification of the historical-low-income area of the city which also includes the gay district. Jack is a horrendous person who cheats and lies his way in life. After hearing about his despicable deeds and horrible treatment of the LGBTQ community, his great uncle, the Devil, returns to witness his atrocities. Jack manages to fool the devil into giving him three wishes, one of which is to never go to hell for his horrible behavior. But learns he should be careful what he wishes for.
