In the quaint town of Smith River, nestled in the rolling hills of Northern California, Alice Whizenhunt led a quiet life befitting her 85 years. A kind-hearted soul with an affinity for animals and a penchant for her favorite TV mysteries, Alice's days were filled with simple pleasures, like tending to her beautiful front garden. It was full of lilacs and poppies and sunflowers. However, her peaceful routine was about to be shattered by a bizarre encounter that would test the very limits of her imagination.
As Alice sat in her favorite armchair by the crackling fireplace, savoring a cup of chamomile tea and watching an old episode of "Murder, She Wrote," a loud knock on the door startled her. Setting down her teacup, she slowly made her way to the front door, her fluffy calico cat, Mr. Whiskers, trailing behind her.
Opening the door, Alice found herself face to face with a tall, dark-haired man dressed in an impeccably tailored suit. His piercing blue eyes held a hint of urgency as he introduced himself as Detective James O'Connor.
"Good afternoon, Miss Whizenhunt. I'm here to ask you a few questions about a rather peculiar incident that occurred down by the river this morning," Detective O'Connor said, his voice smooth yet authoritative.
