Rhoda Berlin is a second generation Korean American with over thirty years of experience as a marriage and family therapist. She is the co-author of the non-fiction book Mixed Blessings: A Guide to Multicultural and Multiethnic Relationships. See Me is her first novel.
Family therapist Jackie Kessler, the child of Korean refugees, works mostly with minorities, a clientele many of her colleagues avoid. 15-year-old Amy Nguyen, the child of Vietnamese refugees, reluctantly enters Jackie's office after a suicide attempt. Their relationship grows and nurtures them both. At age 25, Amy is Seattle's newest indie rock sensation. By 30, she's dead – a suicide. Jackie's shocked – she knows this can't be true, but Amy's family sues her for malpractice. To save her career, Jackie teams with her family, friends and former police detective, Allan Shaw, to prove it was murder. The investigation pushes their relationships to the edge, forcing them to confront buried trauma, loss, and prejudices.
