Ed Peoples is a professor emeritus of Criminal Justice at Santa Rosa Junior College, where he taught for twenty years, and he also taught eight years at San Jose State University. He has previously written and published four textbooks and two anthologies in the justice field. Now retired from teaching, Ed is devoting his creative efforts in developing the main characters in this novel into a series of detective and adventure stories for subsequent novels. He lives with his wife in a small village in northern California.
Matt Worth works and a private investigator and part time college professor. In this case, he is accompanied by his ex-wife on a hunt through Nevada for a missing husband and some contraband that the husband has hidden. They in turn became hunted by the missing husband's boss. Matt's ex-wife is kidnapped to force Matt to reveal the location of the contraband. There is a shooting scene in which Matt frees his ex-wife, the he faces the main adversary boss and resolves the situation. In the meantime, Matt and his ex-wife part friends. Matt then meets the new woman in his life (Samantha-Sam-Crain) via introduction from his life-long friend and mentor, Hatfield. They develop a romance, which is made complicated by the same adversary, who believes that Matt has interfered his family situation. Another secret meeting resolves the issues and Matt's new lady is released. She has been traumatized by her ordeal and must work through her own issues and decide if she and Matt can make a go of it. In the end, Love will out.
