Rob has a keen interest in history and military strategy. Among others, he admires the work of Mervyn Peake, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Joseph Conrad; and especially loves the humour of P.G. Wodehouse. He lives in Brisbane, Australia and plays the trumpet in community orchestras.
After the final battle for the City, the great warrior Hector, former Chieftain of the Gatherers, along with Pont the Merchant, embarks on a voyage of adventure to the far south of the Great Sea. And to record their escapades in his grubby, food and wine stained journal, here again is the repellent Urgus. Little escapes his caustic eye; whether in desperate fights with outlandish renegades or a disturbing encounter with a lost tribe, whose exquisite manners conceal an unsavoury inclination. While he usually wriggles out of every danger, he cannot avoid hilarious episodes with dangerous women better left alone, could he but resist them. And in the City they left, a secret enemy threatens the Gatherers, the loyal, but ill-fated tax collectors for the City.
An exciting adventure, punctuated with humorous observations and interludes, Urgus Unbound is set in a realistically portrayed historical (non-magical) fantasy world. Although written as a sequel to Urgus the Scribe it can be read as a stand alone novel.
