The past didn't happen to the person we are today. It happened to a younger version of us, and we carry the memory of what happened to them and Sympathy pains for them, as a show of support and solidarity for what they went through.
But they suffered, endured and survived it; they did; we just carry sympathy pains for them, it didn't happen to us, its none of our business!
