The Redemption of Taxi Joe is planned to be a six-part series. Prelude is the first part.
',,, Now, heading towards nine-thirty, with downtown bathed in the sulphurous glow of the streetlights – the last remnants of Old Time - highlighted by the acid greens, blues, yellows and reds of the neon signs above Market, reflected in the puddles that make the streets look like they're paved in glass, oppressed by low, nicotine-coloured clouds, dragged in on the back of the incoming tide, hemming in the stench of decay – the constant reminder that, whatever they say, it's bad, getting worse and there is no hope; at least, not for the likes of us – it's time to go to work …'
Except work for Joe is not like work for you and me – a scheming, murderous, con artist and thief, working hard to beat the system, staying one step ahead of Precinct and Fever Tree, dreaming of one day, cutting loose and going in search of Ural and the last of the northern bears.
